Terminology

Relationship Anarchy - The belief that relationships shouldn’t be bound to specific rules; relationship anarchists typically don’t label relationships and incorporate whatever aspects of a relationship fit that specific relationship

Amatopunk - A subculture that challenges the beliefs of amatonormativity and what it means to be in a relationship, how to define love, and how important love and relationships are to a society

Amatonormativity - The harmful idea that all individuals desire a monoamorous, romantic relationship—it excludes poly/ambiamorous and aromantic/aro-spec individuals

Miscellaneous Labels

Monomorous/Monogamous - Someone who wants to be in a relationship (romantic, sexual, queerplatonic, etc.) with only one individual at once

Polyamorous - Someone who wants to be in a relationship (romantic, sexual, queerplatonic, etc.) more than one individual at the same time, with everyone involved knowing and consenting to it
Sometimes shortened to polyam

Polyaffectionate - Someone who wants to be in a non-romantic relationship (queerplatonic, alterous, solaic, etc.) with more than one individual at the same time, with everyone involved knowing and consenting to it

Ambiamorous - Someone who is fine with either a polyamorous or monoamorous relationship and has no preference between the two

Polyaffectionate - Someone who is fine with being in a mono- or poly- non-romantic relationship (queerplatonic, alterous, solaic, etc.) with no preference between the two

Nonamorous - Someone who does not desire intimate partnerships (platonic, romantic, sexual, queerplatonic, etc.)

Non-partnering - Someone who does not want to be in a significant relationship (platonic, romantic, sexual, queerplatonic, etc.)

Objectum - Someone who experiences attraction to inanimate objects; can include romantic, sexual, and/or tertiary attraction

Tertiary Attraction/Eriattraction - Any type of attraction that is neither romantic nor sexual


Platonic attraction - Wanting to be in a platonic relationship/friendship with a specific individual; a platonic crush is sometimes referred to as a “squish”Someone who does not experience platonic attraction is aplatonic/apl and someone who does experience platonic attraction is alloplatonic

Aesthetic attraction - Being attracted to a specific person’s appearance/how they look in a non-romantic, non-sexual way—sometimes it is compared to feeling drawn to a nice painting; an aesthetic crush is sometimes referred to as a “swish”Someone who does not experience aesthetic attraction is anaesthetic/nonaesthetic and someone who does experience aesthetic attraction is alloaesthetic

Alterous attraction - The desire to be emotionally close with a specific person in a way that’s not platonic nor romantic; an alterous crush is sometimes referred to as a “mesh”Someone who does not experience alterous attraction is analterous/nonalterous and someone who does experience alterous attraction is alloalterous

Solaic attraction - A bond founded on mutual comfort, understanding, and safety

Adornic attraction - A type of attraction based on adoration for a specific individual

Familial attraction - The desire to be emotionally close with a specific person in a familial/family-like way—this could be by blood relatives or by chosen familySomeone who does not experience familial attraction is afamilial and someone who does experience familial attraction is allofamilial

Mental attraction - The desire to form an intellectual bond with a specific person—to share wisdom, interests, and knowledge. A mental crush is sometimes called a “mish”Someone who does not experience mental attraction is amental and someone who does experience mental attraction is allomental

Nebulous attraction - Someone who does not or cannot differentiate between different types of attraction—a type of attraction where one does not know what type of attraction one is experiencing

Quaestus attraction - Admiration towards a specific person and/or looking up to a specific individual. A quaestus crush is sometimes called a “stuscrush”

Queerplatonic attraction - The desire to be in a queerplatonic relationship (QPR) with someone—a committed, non-romantic relationship that defies societal norms of a traditional platonic relationship. A queerplatonic crush is sometimes called a “squash” or “plush”Someone who experiences queerplatonic attraction is alloqueerplatonic/alloqp and someone who does not experience queerplatonic attraction is aqueerplatonic/aquaplatonic/aqp

Sensual attraction - A type of attraction that involves the sense, usually touch; alternatively, the desire to experience non-romantic, non-sexual touch with a specific individual, such as hand holding, cuddling, etc. A sensual crush is sometimes called a “lush”Someone who experiences sensual attraction is allosensual/allosen and someone who does not experience sensual attraction is asensual/asen

Vocal/Aural attraction - The attraction to a specific individual’s voice

Social attraction - The desire to be close with someone via socializing, typically because of a perceived talent or wisdom. A social crush is sometimes called a “rush”Someone who experiences social attraction is allosocial and someone who does not experience social attraction is asocial

Rose attraction - Shortened form of romantic and sexual attraction

Romantic attraction - Wanting to be in a romantic relationship/date a specific individual; often referred to as a “crush”Someone who does not experience romantic attraction is aromantic/aro and someone who does experience romantic attraction is alloromantic/alloro

Sexual attraction - A desire to have sexual interaction with a specific individual; a sexual crush is sometimes referred to as a “smush”Someone who does not experience romantic attraction is asexual/ace and someone who does experience romantic attraction is allosexual

Pronouns

Pronouns ≠ gender; someone can identify as a man and use they/them or she/her, someone can identify as nonbinary and use she/her, etc.

Pronoun flags are not commonly used, but they have been included to show the different designs

Pronoun Terminology

Auxiliary Pronouns - Pronouns that someone doesn’t necessarily prefer, but are okay/better than other options.For example, someone who uses xe/xem and it/its with auxiliary they/them prefers xe/xem and it/its, and doesn’t necessarily like they/them, but is okay with being referred to with they/them


Stage Pronouns - Pronouns that an individual only uses during/in the context of a performanceFor example, a drag queen who uses she/her as stage pronouns only uses she/her when in drag, and doesn’t use she/her out of drag

Miscellaneous Labels

Multipronomial - Someone who goes by more than one set of pronouns; e.g. he/they = someone who uses he/him and they/themA multipronomial individual may or may not have a preference on which pronoun(s) they like more, and may or may not care how frequently people alternate between their pronoun sets.Typically the preferred set will go first, for example “they/he” if the individual prefers they/them over he/him, but this is not always the case

Panpronomial/All pronouns - Someone who goes by all pronouns
They may or may not care how frequently people switch which pronouns are used to refer to them, and they may or may prefer certain pronouns over others

Aexnounphoric - Someone who is fine with any pronouns but gets less euphoria from pronouns associated with their assigned sex.For example: Someone who is AFAB (assigned female at birth) and aexnounphoric would use all pronouns, but get less euphoria from she/her

Apapronomial/Any pronouns - Someone who goes by any pronouns and/or don’t care which pronouns are used for them

Nullpronomial/No pronouns - Someone who doesn’t go by any pronouns at all—the individual would only be referred to by name or by restructuring sentences to avoid pronounsFor example, “He went to the store, and I went with him.” would become
“Alex went to the store, and I went with Alex.” or “Alex and I went to the store.”

Pronounfluid - Someone whose pronouns change over timeFor example: someone goes by he/they one day, and then the next goes by she/it, and the next goes by she/they/he, etc.

Demipronounfluid - Someone whose pronouns change over time but always has at least one set of pronouns that stays the sameFor example: Someone whose pronouns change but always includes he/him—sometimes that person goes by he/him, sometimes he/she, sometimes he/they/she, etc.

Pronounflux - Someone who goes by multiple pronoun sets and the set they prefer changes, but they always are fine with all of their pronoun setsFor example: someone who goes by she/they/he and sometimes prefers she/they, sometimes prefers he/him, etc. but is always fine with she/her, they/them, and he/him

Mirrorpronomial/Mirrored pronouns - Someone who goes by whatever pronouns the person who is referring to them goes byFor example: Jane is mirrorpronomial. If Jane is being referred to by someone who goes by she/they, then Jane goes by she/they. If Jane is being referred to by someone who goes by xe/xem, then Jane goes by xe/xem, etc.

Nounself pronouns - A subset of neopronouns that use nouns as pronouns

Using nounself pronouns does not necessarily equal identifying as that noun

Queer - An umbrella term for anyone that is not exclusively, 100% heterosexual and/or heteromantic

Azalean - Queer attraction to women; someone who is attracted to women in a queer way

Faunic - Non-men who are attracted to other non-men

Lilacean - Queer attraction to men; someone who is attracted to men in a queer way

Floric - Non-women who are attracted to other non-women

Diamoric - An umbrella term used to describe nonbinary people that experience attraction in a non-binary way

Abrosexual - Someone whose sexuality is fluid/changes

Pomosexual - Someone who denies and/or doesn’t fit any existing labels

Cassexual/romantic - Someone who is indifferent to the idea of sexuality/romanticism and does not consider it an important part of their identity

Unlabeled - Someone who does not use any labels for their sexuality/romantic orientation/etc.

Questioning - Someone who doesn’t know or is unsure of their sexual/romantic orientation

A(sexual/romantic/etc.) Spectrum Labels

The “etc.” listed here and throughout this section refers to other types of attraction that you can find in the “Types of Attraction” section

Asexual/Aromantic - Someone who experiences little to no sexual/romantic attraction to others

Labels for those that experience types of non-sexual, non-romantic attraction that they feel are important enough to warrant a place along side their sexuality and/or romantic orientation

Oriented Aroace - Someone who is aromantic and asexual and experiences other forms of attraction that they feel are important enough to warrant a label alongside their aroace identity

Oriented Aroallo - Someone who is aromantic and allosexual and experiences other forms of attraction that they feel are important enough to warrant a label alongside their aroallo identity

Oriented Aro - Someone who is aromantic and doesn’t have/doesn’t label their sexuality and experiences nonsexual, nonromantic forms of attraction that they feel are important enough to warrant a label alongside their aro identity

Angled Aroace - Someone who is on both the asexual and aromantic spectrums and experiences other forms of attraction that they feel are important enough to warrant a label alongside their aroacespec identity

SAM - Stands for split attraction model, is a model where you label both your sexual orientation and romantic orientation—for example, asexual biromantic or pansexual aromantic or asexual aromantic, etc.

Non-SAM Ace - Someone who is asexual and doesn’t use the split attraction model (doesn’t label their romantic orientation)

Non-SAM Aro - Someone who is aromantic and doesn’t use the split attraction model (doesn’t label their sexual orientation)

Solum Aro - An aromantic individual that doesn’t have a sexual orientation

Solum Ace - An asexual individual that doesn’t have a romantic orientation

Arovoid - An aromantic individual who is solely aromantic and does not have any other identities such as sexuality, sensual orientation, platonic orientation, etc.

Acevoid - An asexual individual who is solely asexual and does not have any other identities such as romantic orientation, sensual orientation, platonic orientation, etc.

Neu Aro - Someone who is aromantic and neutral on the allosexual-asexual spectrum

Unit Aro - Someone who experiences their aromanticism as a single unit—for example, only identifying as aro, identifying as aro most, or they prefer their aromanticism over other parts of their identity

Unit Ace - Someone who experiences their asexuality as a single unit—for example, only identifying as ace, identifying as ace most, or they prefer their asexuality over other parts of their identity

Aroqueer - Someone whose aromanticism is the most important part of their identity, and everything else is just labeled as “queer”

A-spec identities that don’t fit in the other categories

Someone who experiences no attraction whatsoever, including romantic, sexual, and all forms of tertiary attractions

Acemid - Someone who is asexual and on the aromantic spectrum

Aromid - Someone who is aromantic and on the asexual spectrum

Amid - Someone who is on both the asexual and aromantic spectrums

Aroace - Someone who identifies as both aromantic (aro) and asexual (ace)

Electio Aroace - Someone who is both asexual and aromantic and doesn’t experience other forms of attraction

Alloace - Someone who is asexual and alloromantic (experiences romantic attraction)

Aroallo - Someone who is aromantic and allosexual (experiences sexual attraction)

Ace/Arovague - Someone whose a-spec identity is influenced by neurodivergence

Alicosexual/romantic - Someone who knows they’re somewhere on the aro/ace spectrum, but there isn’t a specific term that fits them

Acosexual/romantic - Someone who experiences sexual/romantic attraction that they want to act upon, but has a strong aversion to it due to neurodivergence, past experiences, etc.

Orchidsexual/romantic - Someone who experiences sexual/romantic attraction but does not want to be in the corresponding relationship/does not want to act on their attraction

Adexsexual/romantic - Someone who experiences sexual/romantic desire to non-real or non-specific people, but do not experience that desire or attraction to real, specific people; only feeling attraction in theory, not in reality

Miransexual - Someone who only experiences visual sexual attraction but does not experience sexual desire or physical sexual attraction

Labels for those that experience fluctuating amounts of attraction

Ace/Arojump - Someone who is normally allosexual/romantic (experiences sexual/romantic attraction) but rarely, briefly experiences near or total asexuality/aromanticism

Ace/Arospike - Someone who is normally asexual/aromantic but experiences rare, brief periods of sexual/romantic attraction

Ace/aroflux - Someone who’s sexual/romantic orientation fluctuates—for example, fluctuating from allosexual/romantic to demisexual/romantic to akoisexual/romantic to asexual/aromantic, etc.

Labels for those that only experience attraction under certain conditions

Aliquasexual/romantic - Someone who only experiences sexual/romantic attraction under certain circumstances

Autosexual/romantic - Someone who primarily or only experiences sexual/romantic attraction to themself

Fictosexual/romantic - Someone who can only experience sexual/romantic attraction to fictional characters

Greysexual/romantic - Someone who relates to asexuality but doesn’t feel “fully” asexual—for example, someone who experiences attraction extremely rarely or very weakly

Caligosexual/romantic - Someone who experiences sexual/romantic attraction but it feels very vague, weak, or almost nonexistent

Demisexual/romantic - Someone who only experiences sexual/romantic attraction to someone after a close emotional bond has been formed

Amantesexual- Someone who only experiences sexual attraction to someone they are in love with

Dellosexual/romantic - Someone who is demisexual towards a certain gender or genders, and allosexual towards another gender or genders

Parosexual/romantic - Someone who is allosexual towards certain genders, and ace/aro-spec towards other genders—for example, someone who is allosexual towards men, demisexual towards women, and lithsexual towards agender people

Fraysexual/romantic - Someone who can only experience sexual/romantic attraction to people they are not close with, and lose their attraction once they get to know/become close with the person they’re attracted to

Lith/akoisexual/romantic - Someone who experiences sexual/romantic attraction, but it fades when reciprocated or when that individual enters a sexual/romantic relationship

Reciprosexual/romantic - Someone who only experiences sexual/romantic attraction when they know the other person is sexually/romantically attracted to them first

Yumesexual/romantic - Someone who only experiences sexual/romantic attraction while dreaming, not while they are awake

Quoisexual and related a-spec labels

Quoisexual/romantic - Someone who doesn’t know if they are asexual/aromantic or not due to not understanding sexual/romantic attraction, not being sure if they feel sexual/romantic attraction, struggling/being unable to tell the difference between types of attraction, etc.

Nebulasexual/romantic - Someone who cannot tell if they experience sexual/romantic attraction due to neurodivergence

Laimosexual/romantic - Someone who is unsure if they experience sexual/romantic attraction because they’re not sure what sexual/romantic attraction is or what sexual/romantic attraction feels like

Platonisexual/romantic - Someone who cannot tell if they experience sexual/romantic attraction due to not being able to tell the difference between sexual/romantic attraction and platonic attraction

Idemsexual/romantic - Someone who feels no internal difference between sexual/romantic attraction and platonic attraction, but categorizes relationships based on outside factors—factors other than their attraction/how they feel

Lovequeer - Rejecting the word “love” as a romantic word and using it to reference other, non-romantic types of love

Loveloose - Someone who doesn’t experience anything that fits the description of “love” but still uses it to describe their experience

Loveless/Loveless Aro - An aro individual that rejects/dislikes the concept of love entirely, including non-romantic love

Aegosexual/romantic - Someone who is asexual/aromantic and is fine with or enjoys the idea of sex/romance, as long as it does not involve them

Contrasexual/romantic - Someone who is asexual/aromantic and is sex/romance-ambivalent (has mixed feelings)

Apothisexual/romantic - Someone who is asexual/aromantic and is sex/romance-repulsed

Cupiosexual/romantic - Someone who does not experience sexual/romantic attraction but still desires to be in a sexual/romantic relationship

Bellussexual/romantic - Someone who is asexual/aromantic and wants certain aspects of a sexual/romantic relationship, but not a sexual/romantic relationship

Psuedosexual/romantic - Someone who experiences non-sexual/non-romantic attraction that borders on or mimics sexual/romantic attraction

Erassexual/romantic - Someone whose sexual/romantic attraction partially or entirely vanished, so they are now asexual/aromantic

Abusexual - Someone who doesn’t experience sexual attraction due to non-physical sexual trauma/harassment

Caedsexual/romantic - Someone who feels as if they were allosexual/romantic but their attraction has been “cut away” due to past trauma and they are now asexual/aromantic

Multisexual - Someone who is attracted to more than one gender

Pansexual - Someone who is attracted to people regardless of gender/someone who is “gender blind” when it comes to attraction

Heteroflexible - Someone who is mostly attracted to the opposite binary gender but is occasionally attracted to the same gender

Homoflexible - Someone who is mostly attracted to the same gender but is occasionally attracted to the opposite binary gender/other gender(s)

Juvelic Orientations - Orientations that specify both your gender and the gender(s) you’re attracted to

Romeric - MLW; A man who is attracted to women, exclusively or not

Achillean - MLM; A man who is attracted to men, exclusively or not—alternatively, a non-woman who’s attracted to non-women, exclusively or not

Adonic - MLNB; A man who is attracted to nonbinary individuals, exclusively or not

Rochillic - MLW + MLM ; A man who is attracted to women and men, exclusively or not

Litian - MLW + MLNB ; A man who is attracted to women and nonbinary individuals, exclusively or not

Asterosian - MLM + MLNB; A man who is attracted to men and nonbinary individuals, exclusively or not
